As a Senior Automation Engineer in the Enabling Modules & Technology (EM&T) Team, you will contribute to the development of software and control systems that keep TEM microscopes safe, stable, and ready for experiments. The team works on system and workflow coordination, temperature and power control, motion safety, service and monitoring features across advanced microscopy platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, coordinating, and executing test strategies and plans, while ensuring comprehensive Quality Assurance coverage throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using Python and Robot Framework.
- Collaborate closely with Developers, Product Managers, Software Quality Assurance Engineers and DevOps to understand requirements and ensure test coverage across all layers of the application.
- Write clear, maintainable, and high-quality automated test scripts for backend APIs, services, and integration points.
- Perform code reviews, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve test infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement and track test metrics to ensure test effectiveness and efficiency.
- Create detailed automated test plans, including effort estimations and scheduling.
- Execute test cases, evaluate results, and prepare comprehensive test reports
- Communicate testing progress and quality status to stakeholders
- Participate in release processes, identifying risks and ensuring smooth product delivery.
- Help define and uphold best practices in software quality and test automation.
- Work effectively within an Agile Scrum / SAFe framework, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, technical estimation, PI planning, reviews, retrospectives, and cross-team coordination to support predictable and high-quality delivery.
Required Skills
- 6 to 10 years of hands-on experience in software automation testing.
- Strong hands-on experience in Python for Test Automation and Robot Framework.
- Experience with the Python language
- Exposure to BDD frameworks such as Behave or pytest-bdd.
- Awareness or prior exposure to Model Based Testing (MBT) tools such as Axini.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Good understanding of software testing principles, including test design, test strategy, and defect lifecycle.
- Experience with defect tracking systems and bug lifecycle management
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with GUI testing libraries such as FlaUI, Pywinauto, or Squish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field; advanced degree is a plus.
- Prior experience in scientific, industrial, or instrument-control software environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as FDA or ISO standards / ISTQB certification
